Album News Weekly: 5th August 2013

This week there's a whole heaps of big new music announcements, including albums from Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Kevin Devine, Ty Segall, Rainbow Chan, Regurgitator, The Jungle Giants and a whole heap more!

BROOKE HYLAND

Dance Moms star Brook Hyland will release her self-titled first album on August 13th. It follows the lead single ‘What About Love’ and many of the songs on the album will feature on the TV show Dance Moms.

CALIFONE

Califone will release their new album on September 2nd on Dead Oceans. ‘Stitches’ is the first single from the album.

CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have just released a new EP, Little Moments, and have also just announced their as-yet-unnamed new full length album, set for release in January 2014.

DOM MARIANI & THE MAJESTIC KELP

After 7 years, Dom Mariani & The Majestic Kelp are back with their third album Turn Up The Sun. It’s out now on Head Records.

BLESSTHEFALL

BLESSTHEFALL have announced a new album Hollow Bodies, set for release on August 16th via Fearless Records/Shock. They’ve also released the new lyric video for ‘You Wear A Crown But You’re No King’ from the upcoming third studio album.

A$AP FERG

A$AP Ferg will release Trap Lord on August 23rd through A$AP Worldwide/Polo Grounds Music and Sony Music Entertainment Australia. It will include his breakout hit ‘Work REMIX’.

CHUCK INGLISH

Chuck Inglish, half of The Cool Kids will release his debut solo album Convertibles via Sounds Like Fun/Federal Prism. The self-produced album features collaborations with a host of other artists and follows his Droptops EP from earlier this year.

THE FRATELLIS

We Need Medicine is the new album from The Fratellis after their 5 year hiatus. It’s set for release on 7th October through BMG Records, preceded by the new single ‘Seven Nights Seven Days’ on 29th September.

DELTRON

Deltron 3030 will release their second album Deltron 3030: Event II this 27th September on Pod through Inertia. You can view the album trailer below.

KEVIN DEVINE

Kevin Devine has announced the release date for the dual release of his seventh and eight albums, Bulldozer and Bubblegum. They’ll be released on October 15, after being fan funded through a Kickstarter campaign.

THE VENETIA FAIR

The Venetia Fair have announced their new album Every Sick, Disgusting Thought We’ve Got In Our Brain will be released on 12” vinyl via Mike Abiuso’s SwitchBitch Records. Their vinyl release showcase will occur on August 10th, and the record can be pre-ordered at http://thevenetiafair.bigcartel.com/. ‘The Day I Set Them Free’ is a single from the album.

TY SEGALL

Sleeper is the new album from Ty Segall>/b> and will be out on Friday 16th August via Spunk. It’s very clearly been stated that they’ll be no singles or music videos prior to the album, so you’ll have to sit tight to hear this one!

OKKERVIL RIVER

Okkervil River will release ther seventh studio album The Silver Gymnasium on Friday 3th August via Spunk. ‘It Was My Season’ is the first single from the record.

BALANCE AND COMPOSURE

Balance and Composure have announced their sophomore LP The Things We Think We’re Missing will be available on September 13 through Shock Records. It follows their debut album Separation. The new single is ‘Reflection’.

PETER GABRIEL

Peter Gabriel will release his And I’ll Scratch Yours album project on Friday 27th September through Caroline/Universal. The album is the concluding part of a series of song exchanges where Gabriel and other artists reinterpret each other’s songs. Scratch My back was originally released in 2010 and is now accompanied by this second release. Artists include Bon Iver, Paul Simon and David Byrne among others. The full track listing is below.

METALLICA

Metallica have announced the release of Metallica Through The Never (Music from the Motion Picture), the soundtrack to the forthcoming 3D film Metallica Through The Never. The two disc CD set will be release on Blackened Recordings/Universal Music in Australia on September 20th.

FUR TRADE

Fur Trade will release their debut album Don’t Get Heavy on September 27th via Last Gang Records/Cooking Vinyl. The first single and title track is out now.

AISHA BURNS

Life In The Midwater is the debut fell-length album from Aisha Burns and is out via Western Vinyl on September 17th.

BULLET TRAIN RECORDS

Bullet Train Records are celebrating their 5th birthday with a free Allstars Volume II compilation, out 12th. It will feature Marco Del Horno (Black Butter), Cause & Affect (Dirtybird), Pete Graham and Chris Lorenzo amongst others.

RAINBOW CHAN

Rainbow Chan has just released her debut EP, Long Vacation via Silo Arts & Records/Frenchkiss Label Group/Inertia Music. She’s celebrating with an EP tour across the country, hitting New Zealand as well.

THE FLATLINERS

The Flatliners will release their full-length LP Dead Language in Canada on September 17th through New Damage Records, supported with a tour.

NEWTON FAULKNER

Newton Faulkner is set to release his new album Studio Zoo on August 26th. It will be followed by the official release of his new single ‘Losing Ground’ on September 8th. It follows his album Write It On Your Skin.

REGURGITATOR

Regurgitator’s new album Pop Fantasy is set for release on September 6th. They’ve just announced the dates for their Dirty Pop tour around Australia.

BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR

Blood on the Dance Floor return with sixth LP Bad Blood, set for release in Australia on August 30. It follows 2012’s Evolution.

MAZZY STAR

Mazzy Star have announced the worldwide release of their fourth studio album, Seasons of Your Day, on September 24th. ‘California’ is a new track from the album.

THE JUNGLE GIANTS

The Jungle Giants’ debut album Learn to Exist will be out on Friday 30th August. The album includes single ‘I Am What You Want Me To Be’.

MATT WERTZ

Matt Wertz will release his latest LP Heatwave on August 27th. It will be released digitally, on vinyl and as a limited cassette run.

THE POLYPHONIC SPREE

The Polyphonic Spree’s fourth studio album Yes It’s True is set for release in Australia and New Zealand for later this year. It was backed by a Kickstarter campaign in order to created the album. ‘You Don’t Know Me’ is the first track from the album.

VAN MORRISON

Van Morrison’s 1969 classic album Moondance will be re-released with the newly remastered and expanded version, featuring 50 unreleased tracks. Three different physical versions of MOONDANCE will be available from Warner Bros. Records on September 27, including the 4 disc deluxe edition, the 2 disc expanded edition, and the standard 1 disc edition.

PANIC! AT THE DISCO

Panic! At The Disco have announced their new album Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die! will be released on 4th October. It’s their fourth studio album, and their first new release since 2011, preceded by the first single ‘Miss Jackson’.

HULA

Hula formed in 1980, and released albums Cut From The Inside and Murmur in 1983 and 1984 respectively. Murmur is now reissued for the first time in nearly 30 years in a vinyl limited edition of 300 copies in clear blue vinyl.

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS

Oceania: Live in NYC is the audio-visual recording of The Smashing Pumpkins’ show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on December 10 last year. The concert saw the band perform their Oceania CD in full. It will be available in four formats, as a standard Amaray DVD, a 3D Blu-ray, a Deluxe 2 CD&DVD set and digital long form.

SHINING BIRD

Shining Bird have announced their debut album Leisure Coast set for release via Spunk on Friday 6th September. The first single from the album ‘Distant Dreaming’ is out now.

DEALS DEATH

Swedish band Deals Death will release a new album Point Zero Solution via Universal/Spinefarm Records on 13th September. It follows their second album Elite.

EARL SWEATSHIRT

Doris is the debut album from Earl Sweatshirt, set for release August 20th via Tan Cressida/Columbia and Sony Music Entertainment Australia. ‘Hive’ is the most recently dropped track from the album featuring Vince Staples and Casey Veggies.

THE HEAD AND THE HEART

The Head and the Heart will release their second album Let’s Be Still on 11 October through Sub Pop via Inertia. It follows their self-titled debut from 2011.

BIRDY

Birdy has confirmed she will follow up her debut self-titled album with Fire Within, set for release on Friday 27 September through 14th Floor/Atlantic Records. The new single ‘Wings’ will be out on Friday 9 August. The new album will see more of Birdy’s songwriting, will her having written/co-written all 11 tracks on the new album. THE NAKED AND FAMOUS

The Naked and Famous are set to release new album In Rolling Waves via Island Records Australia on September 13. The lead single ‘Hearts Like Ours’ is available to stream online now.

LUKE TEMPLE

Here We Go Magic frontman Luke Temple will release his solo album Good Mood Fool on 14th October via Secretly Canadian. The first track ‘Katie’ can be streamed now.

TRIPLE J HOUSE PARTY

triple J’s weekly House Party Show, hosted and produced by Nina Las Vegas at 6pm every Saturday, will release triple j HOUSE PARTY Volume 2. It follows the success of last year’s inaugural triple j HOUSE PARTY album, and will be released as a double CD package on August 23rd.

SPEEDY ORTIZ

Speedy Ortiz will release their debut album Major Arcana through Stop Start on August 23rd. The lead single ‘Tiger Tank’ is out now.

CLOSE YOUR EYES

Close Your Eyes have made their return with new album Line In The Sand, a headlining tour and a new front man Sam Robinson.

COUNTERPARTS

Counterparts have released their third studio album, The Difference Between Hell and home. They’ll be heading to Canada for an album release tour, followed by a European tour. They’ve also released the new music video for the single ‘Witness’.

JASON DERULO

Jason Derulo will release his third album Tattoos on September 20. The second single from the album, ‘Talk Dirty’, is out now.

DR. DOG

Dr. Dog will release their new album B-Room on October 4th on Anti-. You can stream the first track from the album, ‘The Truth’.

KATY PERRY

The new album from Katy Perry, Prism is set for release on 22nd October.

THE PAPER KITES

The Paper Kites’ debut album, States will be released on August 30, following the band’s first two EPs, Woodland and Young North. The album trailer can be viewed on Youtube.

EXAMPLE

Example, aka Elliot Gleave, is set to release a collection of greatest hits, entitled #hits on August 9th. Some of the songs on the album include ‘Stay Awake’, ‘Changed The Way You Kissed Me’ and ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’.

NAUGHTY BOY

British producer Naughty Boy will release Hotel Cabana on August 30. The album features a host of collaborations with artists such as Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa, among others.

MISSY RAINES

Bass player Missy Raines will release New Frontier on August 27th, using her voice as a key instrument. The title track, ‘New Frontier’ is out now.

UNEARTH

Metal band Unearth have signed an Australian record deal with 3Wuse Records, and will release a brand new LP later this year, their sixth album in their 15 years.

SEBADOH

Sebadoh have announced the release of their first new LP in 14 years on September 17th, titles Defend Yourself. The precursor to the LP, Secret EP which was released on their Bandcamp a number of months ago.
